A former client contacted me recently in a state of panic. She had a business opportunity and didn’t know how to handle it. It was a new venture and her client wanted references. She said, “I don’t want to tell a lie. I don’t have direct experience.” Even though she had years of related experience as a CPA/lawyer/CEO with glowing client references, she thought she needed to tell the prospective client about her shortcomings.
